The modules that are currently available are Introduction to Honorary Justices, Introduction to RVAHJ, Witnessing of documents, Statutory Declarations, Affidavits, Powers of Attorney, Medical Care Directive and Voluntary Assisted Dying. Additional information for other modules will be added as they become available on this page. This is part of the RVAHJ commitment to Honorary Justices as part of ongoing training and continuous professional development.

As authorised and independent witnesses in the State, JPs are constantly dealing with members of the general public at signing stations, work or at even at home. In the process of providing services to others we are held to a higher standard as through the Justices Code of Conduct. We need to be aware at all times to what can be consider discrimination and harassment so as to ensure we are seen as unbiased at all times in performing our duty. The following short training videos are provided for information purposes as a referesher to Justices as well as providing the opportunity for opening up further conversation. Oaths & Affirmations 2018 Act
The revised Oaths & Affirmations 2018 Act became effective from the 1st March 2019. There have been a number of changes in reference to what is now mandatory or prescribed in regards to wording for swearing as well as for various forms. Powers Of Attorney 2015 & Advanced Care Directive 2018
As part of the ongoing change to update the Enduring Medical Powers of Attorney was replaced by the Advanced Care Directive which was effective from March 2018. This was a major change as to how people can handle their medical treatment when they are not able to. Voluntary Assisted Dying
The Voluntary Assisted Dying legislation became the first to pass in Australian in November 2017. The law gives anyone suffering a terminal illness, with less than six months to live, the right to end their life. The law had an 18-month implementation period, and came into effect on 19 June 2019.
As the leading independent witnesses in the State, JPs will from time to time be requested to witness the execution of the forms required by the new legislation. The process does not mandate that the witness be a JP, but as you know, the public often rely on us for these sorts of things.
