Locate a Justice of the Peace in Mildura and surrounds

The Sunraysia Group have
70 Justices of the Peace located in North West Victoria; based in Mildura
and neighbouring towns. We have 40 active Group members with up to 25
attending our vigorous quarterly lunchtime business meetings. Currently,
the group is lead by Dr. Peter Talbot who is also a Director of the RVAHJ.
Due to our border location, we are currently seeking to enrol JP’s from
NSW as active associate members of our Group. Jenny Bennett is
Secretary-Treasurer and Alan Cameron is Vice President. During the year, the Sunraysia Group holds a number of special meetings and training days. The Annual General Meeting in December involves a luncheon and a guest speaker. This year, we have introduced a mid year evening meeting where a member of the Judiciary is to be invited to be guest speaker. The Sunraysia Group has made a strong commitment to training and annually conducts a document training seminar for new members and a refresher course for all members. The Group actively promotes the role of the Independent Person and is involved in documentation support to a number of community based programs. We participate in numerous community committees having representation on the Police Community Consultation Committee, the Central Business District Committee and the Court Users Group. We currently have seven Bail Justices of whom two are appointed under the Victorian Aboriginal Justice Agreement. We have another two other members who are currently being processed to become Bail Justices. We are a very active group with enthusiastic members who are keen to widen the role of the JP to meet changing community needs. |
